Hi Guys and Gals:
Major change in plan for USS Andrew Jackson Reunion 2009!
There has been a change to our Reunion Cruise and Land Reunion for this year. There will be NO cruise portion to our upcoming reunion in September in San Diego, as we had planned. This is due to Carnival Cruise Lines changing the dates of our proposed September cruise for the third time. The date of our cruise has been changed from September 6-10 to September 7-11 which would make the reunion portion in conjunction with the USSVI-ISA Convention impossible. The earlier and newly scheduled cruise previous to this will be Sept. 3-7, and will be priced probably $200 more per person, and would make many changes in hotel and traveling plans. Aurelia(My First Mate) and I have cancelled our cruise and will leave it up to you as to whether you wish to do the cruise on your own. So, for this year, we will enjoy a land-based reunion in San Diego!
For those of you receiving your first announcement about our reunion, the USS Andrew Jackson Reunion will be held this year in San Diego, CA, at the Town and Country Resort in conjunction with the United States Submarnine Veterans, Inc/International Submariners Assoc. Convention from September 8-13, 2009. MANY other boats will be also having their reunions at this convention, so perhaps if you served on more than one sub, you’d be able to attend more than one at the same time! The list of scheduled submarine reunions is below:
DFAS Tang Class Reunion, USS Andrew Jackson(SSBN619), USS Archerfish(SS311), USS Bates (SSN 680), USS Capitaine (SS/AGSS 336), USS Carbonero (SS 337), USS Dace (SS247), USS Darter (SS 227), USS Diodon (SS 349), USS Gato (SS 212/SSN 615)), USS George Washington (SSBN 598), USS Grayback (SS/SSG/LPSS 574), USS Greenfish (SS 351), USS Grouper (SS 214), USS Haddo (SS 255/SSN 604), USS James Monroe (SSBN 622), USS John Adams (SSBN 620), USS Kamehameha (SSBN/SSN 642), USS Menhaden (SS 377), USS Narwhal (SSN 671), USS Perch (SS/APSS 313), USS Pogy (SSN 647), USS Rasher (SS/SSR/AGSS/IXSS 269), USS Razorback (SS 394), USS Redfish (SS 395), USS Remora (SS 487), USS Rock (SSR 274), UsS Ronquil (SS 396), USS Sabalo (SS 302), USS Scorpion (SS 278/SSN 589), USS Sea Lion (SS/APSS/LPSS 315), USS Sea Owl (SS 405), USS Skate (SSN 578), USS Skipjack (SSBN 585), USS Stonewall Jackson (SSBN 634), USS Tecumseh (SSBN 628), USS Tinosa (SS 283/SSN 606), USS Trout (SS 566), USS Volador (SS566).
Beginning Wednesday, 9 September2009, we will check into the Andrew Jackson Hospitality Suite, and open the doors for any and all of you who are in San Diego for the reunions. The hospitality suite will be open from our check-in time on Wednesday, the 9th, until the evening of Sunday, the 13th of September. If you will be attending the Reunion, please email us at patiopapa37@yahoo.com, and we will email you a copy of the registration form. The cost to each of us attending will be $15.00 per person. This will help to cover a part of the cost for the suite, as well as our "reunion goodies" for all of you.
The Suite is costing us $100.00 per day, and will offer us a place to meet, eat, and relax. We have checked food and beverage prices through the resort’s catering department, and found them to be quite expensive. We will offer our own munchies and beverages and ask only that you make a small donation to help us meet our expenses.
We plan to have a "restaurant style" dinner on Friday evening at 6:30 P.M., and a Saturday afternoon get-together, meeting, and Eternal Patrol Ceremony. If time and numbers warrant, we will have an additional meeting, perhaps a group outing or tour, or some other activity, and announce it later. We will also be planning our next reunion at that time.
There are only 163 days to go until 8 September. As of today, we only have 7 former crew members and their 1st mates who have committed to attending our reunion. Others have verbally or in emails told us that they will attend, BUT, where are all the guys and girls who attended our old ship’s parties, beer ball games, and picnics? Please blow the cobwebs out of your wallets and come and join us in San Diego! You might just have a great time!!!
Website for information about the Convention and Reunion: www.ussvisandiego.org/Convention2009/index.htm. This is chock full of information about the USSVI convention and booking hotel rooms and the plan for the week, etc. Be sure to book your room soon and register for the convention! For the ladies, the vendors available are always great, and Fashion Valley Mall is less than two blocks from the Town and Country Resort! Aurelia was at the Town and Country 2 years ago for another convention, and loved the pools, the grounds, and the proximity to this great mall and P.F.Chang's and Cheesecake Factory!
Aurelia and I will be checking into the Town and Country Resort on Sunday, September 6, so if any of you are around before the convention gets into full swing, please let us know, as we plan to see some of the many attractions and things to do in San Diego.
Best Regards,
Doc and Aurelia McAllister

Below you will find one of the original letters sent out in May-June, 2008.....
Welcome to the USS Andrew Jackson SSBN 619 Reunion Committee Website.
First, we'd like to thank Denny Olson and his website, www.ssbn619.org, for publicizing our last Andrew Jackson Reunion at Sea, which was held on October 4-8, 2007, onboard the cruise ship Inspiration, while enjoying a 4 day cruise out of Tampa, Florida.
On that cruise, our Andrew Jackson Reunion at Sea, a great time was had by all of us. The Reunion at Sea was attended by over 60 folks, and we all enjoyed renewing old friendships and making new ones under the beautiful sunshine in the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico. We all enjoyed two "formal" meetings, had fabulous meals together, visited wonderful Cozumel, and managed to tell and retell at least hundreds of "SEA STORIES"! We hope to upload some photos of that reunion to this website soon, and perhaps you will see some "old" friends there.
Andrew Jackson Reunion, September, 2009, San Diego, California
Plans are now underway for our next reunion in San Diego, California. We will be meeting in conjunction with the joint convention of the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans Inc.) and the ISA (International Submariners Association) to be held September 8-13, 2009.
Plans for this reunion can be made in more than one way..... by popular request, we will again do a Reunion Cruise at Sea, Pre-Convention, out of San Diego, and then attend the joint convention at the Town and Country Resort in San Diego. You and your spouse(and family if desired) may just attend the events at the convention, or you could just cruise with us, or do it all!!.....just think of the fun and enjoyment all of us can have!
Just a few notes for you to think about:
1. The cruise will be a four-day jaunt out of San Diego to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico, on the Carnival Elation, on September 6-10, 2009. Rates right now are very good, and since you are eligible for a military rate, they are even better, and BEGIN at $259 per person for an inside upper and lower, and begin at $329 for an oceanview cabin. Balcony and Suite Cabins are, of course, priced higher. If you are interested, and would like to book that cruise, just call Eulina at 1-800-419-5104, ext. 7662, and tell her that you want to add your booking to Jack McAllister's Andrew Jackson/Sailfish Reunion Cruise, and she will attach your booking with ours. This all worked very well with the previous cruise, so we're doing it again! (Please note that Jack(Doc) does not receive any kind of compensation for organizing the reunion.) Please contact me at the address below as soon as you have booked, so that we can keep track of our attendees. P.S. Travel Insurance is a good thing at our age, since this is over a year away.
2. The Convention (http://www.ussvisandiego.org/Convention2009/index.htm) will be held at the Town and Country Resort (http://towncountry.com) from Sept. 8 - 12, 2009. Please check out the plan for the week, as well as many other pages and pages of information. The Town and Country is a slightly older property, but is quite beautiful and lushly landscaped, has three great pools, several restaurants on property, and many choices of rooms and activities. For the ladies, Fashion Valley Mall is just two blocks away, and it is easy to walk over for great shopping! The annual convention is always great to attend, if only to visit the convention sales room, where you can find anything and everything nautical and related to submarines! All of the events and speakers have not been announced as of this writing(August 1, 2008), but we know that there will be something for everyone's tastes. This should be a great "double" convention in a great city!
3. San Diego is a naval buff and tourists' delight! History abounds here, and water, docks, ships, naval installations, and historical and cultural attractions are in great abundance. The convention website or a quick Google search can point you in all kinds of directions for things to do and see in San Diego.
4. Membership in USSVI is preferred, of course, and you can contact them at www.ussvi.org to find out if a local unit, or Base, is nearby for you to join. Also, not necessary, but nice, is to join the International Submariners Association, and at only $10.00 a year that's a good thing.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or just to gab...

Welcome
2009 USS Andrew Jackson Reunion
San Diego, California
September 8 – 13, 2009
May 11, 2009
Hi Shipmates and First Mates,
The 2009 USS Andrew Jackson Reunion is fast approaching. As most of you know, the Reunion will be taking place in San Diego, California, in conjunction with the USSVI-ISA Joint National Convention September 8 – 13, 2009. This event should be well worth your time and money: San Diego is a great place to visit and do touristy things, this convention will be attended by submariners from around the world (ISA), and the Andrew Jackson, as well as at least 29 other boats will have their reunion then.
Greg and Remy Arneson have enhanced and improved our website that will give you all the info you need to help you get registered for the upcoming reunion. We thank them for all their help with this!
Our website is www.ussandrewjacksonreunion.com.
You can make hotel reservations at the Town and Country Hotel and Resort online, and you can also register for the USSVI portion of the convention by going to http://www.ussvisandiego.org/Convention2009/index.htm.
Membership in USSVI is preferred, and you can contact them at www.ussvi.org.
We have received confirmation on our hospitality suite at the Town and Country Resort. The Suite will be open Wednesday, September 9, through Sunday, Sept.13, and should be located on the first floor of the Royal Palm Tower. We are working on arrangements for an Andrew Jackson dinner for Friday, Sept. 11, probably at 6:30 P.M. Details will be sent out as soon as we have more information for you. Please put the date and time on your schedule. We need to receive your registration forms and checks as soon as possible so that we have a working number of attendees to enable us to book for this private dinner.
The Hospitality Suite is costing us $100.00 per day to give us a quiet place for all old shipmates and mates to get together and snack, imbibe, and swap sea stories! We are able to bring in our own food and beverage items which will help to keep costs low.
We would like to have an “ALL HANDS” meeting on Saturday afternoon to conduct our business meeting, honor the names of our departed shipmates, and discuss our future reunions.
We have also been in contact with a local tour group that would give us a whirlwind tour of the San Diego area. If we have enough interest, we can book a private tour, or you could do a tour like this on your own. The vendors that will be in attendance at the USSVI-ISA Convention will have a plethora of submarine souvenirs, memorabilia, Navy and SS clothing items etc. for you to peruse.
An Andrew Jackson shipmate, Bob Welch, has been our San Diego representative, and has been checking out food, beverage, and dining options for all of us. Thank you, Bob!
We have attached a copy of the Registration Form for the USS Andrew Jackson 2009 Reunion. Please fill out and return to us with your check for $15.00 per person, (only $30.00 per couple.) Cost of the dinner will be announced later.
We have also attached a general “Plan of the Week” which will include main USSVI, ISA, and USS Andrew Jackson events. Complete listings of all events and activities for the week are on the websites.
Folks who have indicated to us so far that they will be attending are as follows:
Richard Ahlborn, Steve Andres, Greg and Pennie Arneson, Bob and Addie Betz, Steve and Carnelia Blazo, John and Donna Bosanek, Steve and Maggie Bournique, Bruce Clark, Wayne and Bonnie Clark, Jim and Ellen Daniels, Jim and Mary Denizen, John Dillon and Roxanne Cupli, Ron and Lisa Harter, Tom Mara, Jack and Aurelia McAllister, Pete and Pat Peterson, Eric and Ava Schaefer, Doug Sprey and Jennie Ellis, Bob and Tessie Welch.
We still need email addresses, addresses, and telephone numbers to enable us to contact as many former crew members as possible. Please let us know that you are out there and still breathing! Our Eternal Patrol list grows with each reunion, and so many of us have never had the opportunity to even meet each other. We really do hope to see you in San Diego in September!
Happy Trails,
Doc McAllister and Aurelia
